Living conditions and remarks
The Democratic Republic of Congo is a diverse country with varying living conditions between MONUSCO duty stations. Some areas have all usual amenities while others have very basic conditions, especially in remote duty stations. Accommodation can be expensive in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, but local markets offer cheaper alternatives for food. Malaria is present throughout the DRC, so prophylaxis is recommended. The country uses the Congolese Franc, but the US dollar is also widely accepted. UN Volunteers can open US Dollar bank accounts in larger towns and cities, while in more remote areas, cash payments may be necessary. The DRC has multiple spoken languages, including French, Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba, and Swahili.
Inclusivity statement
UN Volunteers is an equal opportunity program that welcomes applications from qualified professionals. It is committed to achieving diversity in terms of gender, protected characteristics, and promoting respect for human rights and individual dignity without discrimination based on race, sex, gender identity, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, age, language, social origin, or other status.
Note on Covid-19 vaccination requirements
Selected candidates for certain occupational groups may be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19), in line with the applicable host entity policy.
